About

Mike and Ryan are two middle school teachers who teach at the same school in Boston.  Ryan teaches a 7th grade math class;  Mike teaches 6th grade science.  We created this blog to improve our own teaching, and to share some ideas along the way.

Mission: To maximize student achievement in our classes, at our school, and beyond.

Aims:
  • Mike and Ryan will be able to improve their teaching by finding, trying out, and reflecting upon best practices.
  • Mike and Ryan will be able to provide others with tools to teach better by sharing what they've learned.

Agenda: (in no particular order)
  • How to Teach: What does good teaching look like inside the classroom?
  • What to teach:  What are the most important skills and content to focus on in middle school math and science?
  • Assessment: How can grades be used as effective communication and motivation tools for teacher, parents, and students?
  • Efficiency:  What patterns of planning and grading are most effective and efficient?
  • Sharing:  How can you consistently get good ideas from others and share your own?
